The Brief

The client vision was to create a peaceful retreat for the whole family, where individuals with additional and complex needs are welcomed and understood so that the whole family can relax and enjoy some quality time together. A place that not only welcomes everyone but also offers work experience opportunities for young adults with additional needs and positive role models for the children who visit them.

The Solution

The Qube were approached by Ian and Lorna to undertake a site visit with the aim of putting together a proposal for a state-of-the-art Café and therapy facilities for their new farm experience project. The Qube designed a building which ticked all the criteria when it came to meeting the clients’ exact needs. The Qube took into account the aim of the facility and ensured all of the regulations were met to assist individuals with disabilities as well as creating an open plan kitchen and seating area.

Located in the beautiful countryside in County Durham, the external timber cladding ensured the building blended perfectly into its surroundings

The Outcome

Ian and Lorna Adamson – Owners Haystax Inclusive Learning Experience.

‘Lorna came up with a sketched plan that she gave to the team at The Qube, you guys worked on it and come up with this building which is identical which was perfect. The Qube dealt with everything in-house which has kept things simple but effective. As a result, we have a building that is very well insulated so that helps with our green credentials that we also have on our farm. It’s beautifully warm and the heating that has been installed is an inverted system with all LED lighting in the ceilings.

The planners were concerned at how the building might look on the hill but the building blends in perfectly with our surroundings.

Mason and the projects team really took the pressure off us and worked around any issues we had the constant communication, and the standard of work is excellent.’
